I found this gem of practicing subtraction with drawing pictures! I want to show you this adorable book I read to the kids, Ten Little Fish, and it basically counts backwards starting with 10 fish. Each page another fish swims away, which I used to show a subtraction math sentence on the board.
As we read through the story, I would have volunteers come up and write the number sentence on the board.
After we read Ten Little Fish, I asked the student to draw their own number sentence. They were to draw a group of fish, cross a couple out, and then write the number sentence.
